Chapter 11

Autumn

I stared at my reflection in the mirror, turning my face this way and that as I studied all the changes between this version of myself and the one I remembered from my past life. Autumn and Suri were the same and yet so very different. Now that I had my memories back, it was hard to reconcile both parts of myself into one cohesive person. My life as Suri, Goddess of Chaos and Destruction, hadn’t always been easy, but compared to my life as Autumn, it’d been a cake walk. You know... up until the part where someone was trying to kill me and then settled for cursing me into oblivion.

But the Autumn version of me? She’d struggled. Really struggled. I’d been taking care of myself since I woke up in that damn hospital bed, and it left me hardened. A shell very little could penetrate. I didn’t see the world through rose colored glasses. I knew pain, heartache, loneliness... lessons that made me stronger than I’d ever been as Suri, despite the power that came with being a goddess.

Even small things, like which name to answer to, were convoluted.

My hair was a few shades lighter than it’d been when I was in Olympus, but the wavy length was just the same. I was probably only an inch shorter than before, my breasts a little smaller but perky and just as sensitive. My skin was slightly paler, but that made sense given how hot the sun burned in Olympus. I popped out the color contacts from my eyes and threw them in the trash, relieved I didn’t need to wear the uncomfortable things anymore. There was no need to hide the unusual color now that I was living among supernaturals with similar qualities. Blinking, I took in the amber shade of my irises, an identical match in both lifetimes. If eyes truly were the window to the soul, then mine was exactly the same, and somehow that thought was comforting.

I ran my fingers through my hair and tried to tame it back, happy that my short night of sleep hadn’t left it too tangled. The black circles under my eyes weren’t as pronounced as they’d been last night, and even though I’d only gotten a few hours at most, I felt rested and ready to face the day. The same nervous excitement that fluttered in my stomach when I’d woken up sandwiched between Kayne and Thayer flitted through my belly now. If Thayer had truly found a way to break the curse, we could wake up together every morning.

There was nothing my heart desired more, but fear rode the coattails of my excitement, a dark shadow that reminded me my time was limited and how much I’d lose if this didn’t work.

“Hey,” Kayne called softly from the doorway of the bathroom, and I pulled back from the mirror to give him a small smile.

“Hi,” I said, and eyed the bundle in his hands. “What's that?”

“I brought you some clothing.
